Green Hotel Deals for Earth Day

With Earth Day just days away, Travelocity has launched a sale on over 60 green hotels offering up to 45 percent off room rates in hotels across the US - travelocity.com/earthday.  Not only are green hotels better for the environment, travelers overwhelmingly prefer them.  Travelocity allows consumers to rate its hotels on a scale of 1-5 smiley faces.  Consumers gave 83 percent of non-green hotels three smiley faces or more--but they gave a whopping 94 percent of green hotels three smiley faces or more.

Tangled Art, Female Artist & Coupon

In anticipation of next week's release of TANGLED on Blu-ray & DVD, we present you with quotes & quips from the Conceptual Artist responsible for the enchanted images on Rapunzel's walls, Claire Keane (daughter of famed Animation Supervisor Glen Keane), a time-lapse video clip featuring Claire's painting of a Tangled-themed mural in the Disney offices, and a discount offer for purchase of a Blu-ray + DVD Combo Pack!

Locked away from everything by her overbearing Mother Gothel, Rapunzel's tower walls became her world – a canvas where she could create whatever she wanted!

Talented Conceptual Artist, Claire Keane, offers:

"Rapunzel's walls are really a reflection of what she could see from her window as well as what she was thinking about. There was a definite plan with specific choices made in choosing the colors of Rapunzel's walls. It was important to create how Rapunzel would create, not how I would create, so I had to try a variety of different things that would express her world."

"I've always been inspired by other artists whose works stands out to me for different reasons. Marc Chagall inspires me for his use of color, the great illustrator Charlie Harper inspires me for how to organize objects, and my Dad (Legendary Disney artist, Glen Keane) who always pushes me to really think about what I am creating and why."

"Ideas can come from real life – learn to see the beauty in the tiniest things. Rapunzel's life changed within a single day and what happens to us on a daily basis is important and is part of what shapes us overall."

Walmart announces national rollout of "Pick Up Today"

Walmart announced plans to further expand its U.S. multichannel platform by launching a full-scale, national rollout of “Pick Up Today” later this month. The service enables customers to purchase items online and receive free same-day pickup at a local Walmart store, providing even more savings and convenience to customers.
“Walmart is uniquely positioned to combine the power of eCommerce with our national retail footprint to offer a leading, multichannel experience that delivers the best savings and convenience to our customers,” said Steve Nave, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart.com. “We’ve seen strong customer response from initial tests of ‘Pick Up Today,’ and we’re pleased to expand the program to customers nationwide in the coming months.”
“Pick Up Today” will begin its national rollout later this month and, by June, is expected to be available in nearly 3,600 Walmart stores nationwide. The service will also expand to include up to 40,000 items across multiple categories such as Baby, Toys, Home Décor, Hardware, Outdoor Living, Electronics, Household Appliances and Video Games. Online orders are usually ready for pickup in about 4 hours, and orders placed after 6 p.m. are ready for pickup at 10 a.m. the next day. More information is available online at www.walmart.com/pickuptoday.
Walmart Continues to Deliver More Multichannel Ways to Save
Walmart offers several other multichannel programs to drive continued business growth while offering customers additional savings and convenience.
  • Site to Store – Now in its fifth year of operation, Walmart’s Site-to-Store service allows customers to order tens of thousands of products, most of which are not available in stores, and have items shipped for free to a local Walmart store. Site to Store has saved Walmart customers hundreds of millions of dollars in shipping fees, and customers are receiving their orders even faster than before. Deliveries now arrive in approximately 4-7 days versus the previous window of 7-10 days.
  • FedEx Site-to-Store1 – Walmart’s FedEx Site to Store test program allows customers in select metro markets to order online and ship products free to a FedEx Office location, providing those that don’t live near a Walmart store access to Walmart savings at a convenient location.

According to a recent Walmart survey, approximately 80 percent of customers cited convenience of location as the number one reason for using FedEx Site to Store, and nearly 90 percent indicated they’d use the service again. More information is available online at www.walmart.com/fedex.
  • Walmart Mobile – Through Walmart’s iPhone app and mobile web browser, customers can more easily shop on their terms. New to Walmart Mobile, customers can now refill Walmart Pharmacy prescriptions and order photo prints for pick up at a local store directly from their mobile web browser at m.walmart.com. Customers can also search and browse the full Walmart.com site, view ratings and reviews for all products, create shopping lists, check item availability and find a store using GPS technology.

Special Spring Break Ideas

Spring break offers the last extended break for children before summer begins. This year, think about different ways to celebrate this time off from school with a special trip, vacation or family planned activity that will elicit smiles from the little ones – big or small.

Visit the Relatives
For families that live a long distance away from other family members, spring break can allow for a surprise visit outside of standard holidays and get-togethers. This spring, consider surprising your family with a special visit from the grandkids or nephews and bring everyone together again. During road trips, you and the kids can spot license plates from other states and try to name the capital of each plate’s state.  You can also play funny storytelling games where you start the first sentence of the story, your child has to make up the next part of the story and then the next person in the car takes a turn and so on. Soon you will have a wacky hodgepodge of a story that everyone improvised together.

Frugal Family
FunYou don’t have to spend a lot to have fun with the kids during spring break this year.  Try staying in and creating a life-sized self-portrait. Visit your local crafts store and purchase a giant piece of paper that is as tall as your son or daughter. You can even try using butcher paper from your deli, which could work also. Once you have your paper, lay it on the ground at home and have your child lie on it while you trace his or her entire body on the paper. Once you have the basic form, your child can go to town decorating it and drawing whatever he or she wants on the form. When your child is finished, take a picture of the self-portrait with the artist standing next to it.

Go Local
If a big trip isn’t in the cards this spring break, try something local. Consider taking your children to the premier of the newest movie they are dying to see. It will cost a little more than a normal matinee, but they will feel special when they know they have seen the film before anyone else and will likely want to brag about it. Doing this lets you show your child you understand their world, makes you feel like a rock-star mom and gives you the chance to share the movie details with friends who might be considering a film outing for their own family.

  • 1,500+ retailers, including Fortune 500 companies, use SortPrice.com-built storefronts to post their products (full catalogs)
  • 7.6 million products in 53,000 categories were posted using SortPrice.com's Store App. in 2010, 60 percent more products than in 2009

Monster Jam is coming to Cleveland and I have a great family deal for you!!!

I have girls, I have been able to give them the opportunity to see the Monster Jam in the past and they loved it. I was a bit surprised, as I never grew up with this in the past, but they were simply mesmerized, and could not believe that vehicles could be as BIG and as LOUD as they were in the venue that we went to. With this in mind, I wanted to pass this great deal along to you and your family.

Monster Jam is coming to another local area around me (only a few hours drive) to the Quicken Loans Arena from February 19-20 for 3 total performances. If you click here http://www.theqarena.com/events/monsterjam_110219-20/ click on BUY TICKETS then ‘BUY TICKETS’ next to ‘Special Offers & Promotions’ and type in: FAMPAK. The Monster Jam Family Fan Package is a flat $90 (no additional fees) for 2 adult tickets, 2 kid’s tickets and 2 kid’s food packages.

If this show is anything like what I have seen in the past, it will be awesome. Monster Jam monster trucks will bring you to your feet, racing and ripping up a custom-designed track full of obstacles! Monster Jam provides a massive night’s entertainment tailored perfectly for your family’s budget, and these colorful, larger-than-life beasts are sure to capture the hearts of both young and old! Remember, you don't have to just have boys to go to this event, girls love it as well!

There’s also a pre-show pit party which gives fans (with a pit pass and Feb. 19 show ticket) the chance to see the monster trucks up close, meet drivers, take pictures and get autographs. Pit passes will be available for $5 online at theQarena.com after tickets have been purchased and at the Quicken Loans Arena box office, while supplies last. Passes increase $2 if purchased on day of show.

Take advantage of it now because the offer ends 2/18!

I know it’s valid online and by phone at 1-888-894-9424. Enjoy!!!

The Complete List of 66 Teacher Discounts

Teacher discounts don't often receive the same attention as those specifically for students, but educators need not frown -- there are plenty to be had.

Along with classroom supplies and other learned goodies like books, numerous teacher discounts are offered nationwide, ranging from laptops and Photoshop to museum entry and cell phone plans. Gift Card Granny has compiled a list of 66 top-notch discounts spanning nine categories, both online and off. A sampling:
  • The Container Store: The organizational aficionados provide a 15 percent discount on all items through the Organized Teacher Program. Register online for a free discount card to use for in-store and online purchases. If you visit a store, be sure to have your school ID.
  • Borders: Register for the Classroom Discount Card, a brand-spanking-new program that entitles librarians and teachers 25-percent off most purchases. The discount is for those who teach preschool to high school and available in-store only.
  • The Limited: Show a school ID or valid pay stub when you shop at any The Limited location and snag 15-percent off your entire order. The offer is good for all items on the racks, walls or tables. In other words, everything.
  • Bose: The Bose offer is prime, particularly for those in need of sonic stimulation. Variable discounts are available on all music systems and accessories. Call the Customer Focused Development Team at 1-800-353-4027 for pricing and to place an order.
  • Cell Phone Companies (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile): This discount is a tad tricky to redeem but can save loads on a personal cell phone bill, sometimes up to 20 percent a month. Visit your providers business or discount portal and input your .edu e-mail address to check if your institution is registered. Example: Search "Verizon business discount" in an engine and click on the first result to check your discount or register.
  • National Park Service: Show a valid school ID at a slew of National Park Service visitor centers across the nation and receive 15-percent off any purchase. The discount doesn't apply to park entry or camping fees.
  • John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art: Present a valid school ID at the box office to snag a discounted day pass at the estate-turned-gallery in Sarasota, Fla. The museum, named for John Ringling of Ringling Brothers circus fame, is located at 5401 Bay Shore Road.
The Gift Card Granny list provides information where a deal can be redeemed, how to register for certain reward programs and, of course, the extent of a discount. Rules and conditions change from store to store, yet nearly all of the 66 deals are available year-round for teachers of every brand, including elementary school, high school, university and home school. Download "The Complete List of 66 Teacher Discounts" to sooth these oft-neglected educators with something more rewarding than the routine "apple for teacher."
