Kristin Cavallari Talks Proposal, Wedding, Kids

It's official: Kristin Cavallari is engaged and she's sharing all the details of her fairy-tale engagement and future plans with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in the new issue of Life & Style.

On April 24, Jay got down on one knee as the sun was setting in the sky over Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and asked Kristin, his girlfriend of eight months, to be his wife. "I couldn't be happier," Kristin, 24, tells Life & Style exclusively. "I don't have to date anymore!"

Kristin had a feeling a proposal was coming but Jay made sure to keep it a surprise. "When he opened the ring box, it took me a second to say yes because I was in such shock," Kristin says of her reaction to the 5.2-carat Asscher-cut diamond ring. " I was just staring at the ring and thinking, Oh my God, it's absolutely beautiful!"

Kristin says it was her "dream proposal" however she won't be rushing into an over-the-top wedding anytime soon. "It'll be about a year engagement and then I want a classic and traditional wedding. I can't decide whether I want a small, intimate wedding or a huge wedding -- but it will absolutely not be on TV!" Kristin assures. "If we go with a bigger wedding, then I'll invite some of the Laguna and Hills casts. But if not, then it will probably just be family and really, really close friends."

And while she won't be rushing to the altar, Kristin is already thinking about her future with Jay. "We definitely want kids -- a lot of kids. We want at least three," Kristin tells Life & Style. "I guess we'll take it one pregnancy at a time!"

There were three engaged stars at Tuesday night's Hollywood premiere of Something Borrowed: The flick's stars Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin, plus Kristin Cavallari, who walked the red carpet.

After about 8 months together, Chicago Bears hunk Jay Cutler proposed to the former Hills star, 24, over the Easter weekend.

"I kind of knew it was coming," Cavallari told Us Weekly Tuesday. "But I was definitely very surprised."

After being set up with Cutler, 27, via reality star and E! News host Giuiliana Rancic, Cavalarri says she knew "right away" that Cutler was The One.

"I think that we both knew right away that it was very different and very special," she gushed.

Also very special: Her whopping engagement ring, which she rocked on Something Borrowed's red carpet.

One thing she's keeping private: Cutler's proposal. "I don't want to say, but it was very romantic and very sweet," she said.

The quarterback was very old-fashioned, she offered. "He went and asked my dad, which was really sweet, and my dad really appreciated that! My parents couldn't be happier. They love him and his family is excited, so it's great."

Wedding planning has barely begun, she admitted. "I've been ripping out things from magazines and I had just made a wedding binder, but that's as far as I've gotten."

The wedding could take place in Chicago. "My mom and that whole side of the family is there, and Jay obviously lives there. I think that makes the most sense."

Any dates picked out? "Because of the football season, it would have to be in the next couple months or next spring, so probably next spring."

Stephen Colletti Talks Kristin's Engagement

On Tuesday, the world learned that former Hills man-eater Kristin Cavallari is ready to settle down, after it was announced that the reality starlet became engaged to footballer Jay Cutler. During her time on both MTV's Laguna Beach and The Hills, the SoCal small-screen star fell in and out of love with Justin Bobby, Brody Jenner and Stephen Colletti, just to name a few.

And now one of those former paramours is offering his congratulations to the newly engaged actress. "I'm extremely happy for her," Colletti told Hollywood Life. "She deserves to be happy. She's getting engaged! It's weird. We're at that age now ... it's that reality check."

Colletti himself is currently dating Dancing With the Stars contestant Chelsea Kane, but he doesn't feel the need to put a ring on it just yet. "That's not something [that's on my mind right now]," he said. "Of course I'd like to get married someday though!"

Many of Cavallari's other former co-stars have remained mum on the subject, but former star of The City Whitney Port sent her love and support on Twitter. "@KristinCav heard from a little birdie the big news!" she wrote. "So happy for you, much love!!! Xoxo."

Cavallari has not directly commented on her engagement, but she did tweet her fans on Tuesday, writing, "My phone has not stopped today. Need to put it down."

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are "very in love" and "so happy," a source tells PEOPLE, which stands to reason: Cutler popped the question over the weekend.

So what do we not know about the romance of the reality starlet and her NFL star fiancé?

1. They fell in love fast

They only began dating last fall, and their relationship has been primarily long-distance, but by January, Cavallari, 24, admitted Cutler already had her heart. "I'm in love and it's been great," she told PEOPLE. "Things are really good."

2. Cavallari has other ties to Chicago besides Cutler

"Chicago is great for me," Cavallari has told PEOPLE. "My mom and that whole side of the family is there … It's been nice to hang out with my mom." In fact, since the engagement, a source tells PEOPLE, Cavallari has been spending a lot of time out there.

3. Cutler has health problems, but they don't hurt his career

Noting he "had no energy," Cutler, who lost 35 lbs. in 2008, told the Associated Press that he'd been diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes. "It's a little overwhelming to get that news and realize you're going to have to completely change your life," he said, adding that the diagnosis is not expected to affect his play.

4. They share a love of charity

Among other philanthropic ventures she taken on, Cavallari has been involved in Until There's a Cure, a campaign to raise awareness and funds for AIDS and HIV.

Cutler does volunteer work for young people with developmental disabilities through Vanderbilt's Best Buddies program – and in 2007, he started the Jay Cutler Foundation, which partnered with Mile High United Way’s Youth Success Initiative to help at-risk youth overcome obstacles and graduate from high school.

5. They've both felt betrayed

Cutler, 27, was verbally attacked by some of his Chicago Bears teammates after the 2010 NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers for sitting part of it out due to a knee injury and appearing disinterested on the sidelines. Cutler later said the criticism "bothered" him.

Wrapping up their Mexican vacation, Kristin Cavallari (with fingers hidden) and Jay Cutler were spotted arriving back at LAX International Airport last night (April 25).

Both lovebirds looked relaxed and tan as they strolled out of the terminal, fresh from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

As previously reported, Jay popped the question to Kristin over the weekend, and of course she said yes.

An inside source explained, “He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him. He had asked her dad for permission.”

Former Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari got one sweet surprise while on vacation in Mexico with her NFL beau Jay Cutler.



A source close to the couple confirms to PEOPLE that Cutler proposed over the weekend during their getaway in Cabo San Lucas.

"He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him," the source says.

Cavallari, 24, who also appeared on The Hills, and Cutler, 27, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, have been dating since last fall.

"I'm in love," she told PEOPLE earlier this year, "and it's been great."

Her rep couldn't be reached for comment.

Kristin Cavallari Designs A Shoe For ShoeDazzle

Kristin Cavallari has designed a pair of shoes for charity.

The former 'Laguna Beach' star has teamed up with footwear firm ShoeDazzle to create the floral-print wedges, which she has named 'Bardot' and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to her charity One Kid One World.

She said: "Partnering with ShoeDazzle has given me the opportunity to join two of my loves, fashion and charity work! I've enjoyed the process of designing this unique shoe that really matches my style and personality."

The shoe goes on sale on May 16.
